Well I am finally getting around to uploading all my North India trip pictures. My Nokia N82 was my main and only camera throughout. Ofcause , needless to say, seeing the Taj Mahal was my personal highlight of my trip. Its something I’ve always wanted to see upclose, ever since I was a little kid and first heard about it.
Agra‘s Taj Mahal is one of the most famous buildings in the world, the mausoleum of Shah Jahan‘s favorite wife, Mumtaz Mahal. It is one of the Old/New 7 Wonders of the world, and one of three World Heritage Sites in Agra. You can read about it over on Wikipedia.
I learned that Shah Jahan was working on a Black Taj Mahal for himself on the other side of the river, but his son Aurangzeb imprisoned him in the middle, so it was never complete. His daughter then decide to bury him next to his wife, which broke the symmetry of the place. All the rest is completely symmetrical, hence why there is an identical building opposite the mosque that wasn’t used.
The one on the west is the mosque because it is in the direction of Mecca. Also, the script on the Taj, which is from the Koran, gets larger higher up to make it appear to be the same size.
So with that little history lesson, I present to you, the Taj Mahal : Photographed with a Nokia N82 :-
First up, the Taj Mahal at dawn :
I woke up at 5:30 am to be right smack at the head of the line to enter the Taj Mahal. I really wanted to beat the Tourist crowd, and I sort of did. The place quickly filled up though.

I love the following shot, because from the spot where it was taken, the left and right minarets look like they’re part of the Main building of the Taj. Shows Shah Jahan‘s obsession with symmetry :
With that, we left the Taj Mahal to check out the other landmarks around Agra.
I was pretty much captivated by the Taj at that point. I had already determined to come back before sunset to take more pictures of it. The place is just so peaceful.
The whole set of pictures (all 143 of them) can be found over at my Share on Ovi album, which you can get at by clicking on any image below :
And Lastly, the Taj Mahal at Sunset :
I went back around 5:30 in the evening to take more pictures. Everyone talks about how beautifully the colors of the sky place and reflect with the white marble of the Taj. They were all right.

The Taj Mahal is amazing. I honestly cannot describe in words, how beautiful the place is. Its one of those things you really have to see upclose to fully appreciate.
If you’re ever in India, you’d be wise to swing by Agra to check it out. Its just that beautiful.
