I’m thinking about starting a weekly feature here on ZomgitsCj , where I talk about some of the basic features of the Symbian UI that most people out there dont know about.
This week’s Beginners Guide to Symbian Phones feature is Menu Shortcuts.
Did you know that each icon on your menu screen has one of the number keys on your phone, assigned to it ?
Memorising your icon placements is SUCH a time saver when you use this feature. It also brings down the number of button or key presses, majorly. For example, suppose I want to go to my Calender from my Home screen :
I press the Menu key to get the Menu page :
Since I want to go to “Calendar” I press the “4″ key on my phone :
And voila, it directly goes to and opens the icon assigned to the button 4 , which in this case is the calendar. Thats just 2 key presses to open an application !
And this isnt limited to just the main menu, this works inside other folders too ! Suppose I want to open my Music player :
I press the Menu key to bring up the Menu, and then I press the 9 key on my phone to take me to the button assigned to it , which is the “Music” folder in this case . The Music folder is automatically selected and opened.
In the folder that opens up , I press the 1 key on my phone , to take me to the first icon which is “Music Player “.
And the Music player automatically opens up. Ta daaa ! And just 3 key presses to do that.
Major time saver , yes ?
