A week with the Nokia N82 Black Edition

A week with the Nokia N82

So its been a week since i got my new phone. The Nokia N82 Black edition. Here’s my mini review in regard to my Nokia N95-1.

First thing i noticed ? The N82 black edition does not grab any attention at all from anyone ,whatsoever. It does however, look leagues better than the Silver N82. If you’re one of those people who feed on other people envying your phone , this isnt the phone for you. For me though it made no difference. If anything i was glad. Maybe noone would try to steal this phone like my Nokia N80 earlier lol.
Also, it looks very similar to the Nokia N81 and N96 Models. So there’s no “exclusive look” to this phone, that some people might look for in a new phone.

The xenon flash is marvelous. After taking a couple pictures with it, i cant imagine ever using a camera with an led flash ever again. The pictures i’ve taken speak for themselves really. The same amazing 5mp camera of the N95 plus a xenon flash. Its probably the best value for money for a person looking for the best cameraphone in the market. I LOVE the camera shutter on the N82 compared to the one on the N95. It snaps open and snaps shut. Very sexay ! The autofocusing also seems to be a tad faster.

Processor and memory wise , it does not disappoint. With over 90MB of ram at startup, you can open up as many applications as you want, at the same time to multitask. You can also surf through almost any site, without suffering from the “memory full” errors that plagued the N95-1 and earlier symbian N-series phones.
I am however, experiencing strange momentary slowdowns every 10 or 15 seconds. I’m hoping they fix that in a software update. Its still much faster than my N95-1 though.

The battery. Ah thats the best part for someone coming from an N95. The battery lasts much longer than the one on the N95. I got about 2 days worth of juice out of it before it switched off. And this was with about 40ish pictures taken , all with flash on and about 2 hours of N-gage v2.0 gaming.

GPS-wise , the N82 does seem to get a lock on faster than my N95-1 used to. Maybe those rumours about the GPS module being placed better , were true.

Otherwise ,in terms of the operating system, the N82 is about 99.99% the same as the N95. The Multimedia Menu being the only real difference.

The only thing i do miss on the N95 is the larger brighter screen. And the much louder loudspeaker. This thing isnt really that loud so i end up missing a couple calls sometimes because i switch the vibrate option to ‘off’ on my general profile.

But otherwise its all good in da’hood !

Would i go back to the N95 if i was offered one ?

Nope !
